Last week, I had the plan to take a 4 day trip to Da Lat with my friends, a beautiful city nestled in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Known for its cooler climate and stunning natural landscapes, I was excited to experience all this charming city had to offer.
As I arrived in Da Lat, I immediately noticed the cooler temperature. With an average temperature of 12°C, that is crazy for Saigonese who normally experience the temperature of ~30°C. The city’s climate was a welcome relief from the hot and humid weather I was used to. I quickly unpacked my bags and set out to explore.
Cay thong co don – Lonely Pine Tree:
One of the first places I visited was “Cay thong co don” – a beautiful and unique destination located in Da Lat city.
This “cay thong” – pine tree – has become an iconic symbol of Da Lat, attracting visitors from all over the world who come to admire its beauty and the fascinating site. The tree stands atop a hill, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. Visitors can climb up to the hill to get a closer look at the tree and take in the picturesque scenery.
In addition to its natural beauty, the tree has also become a symbol of resilience and strength. Despite being the only tree left standing, it has managed to survive and thrive, a testament to the enduring power of nature.

Lau ga la e – Chicken Hotpot
Da Lat is a food lover’s paradise, with a wide range of delicious and unique dishes to try. One of the most famous dishes in the city is Lau Ga La E, a traditional chicken hotpot that is both flavorful and filling.
Lau Ga La E is made by simmering a whole chicken with a variety of aromatic herbs and spices, including ginger, lemongrass, and garlic. The broth is then served in a hotpot along with a variety of fresh vegetables, such as mushrooms, cabbage, and carrots.
What sets Lau Ga La E apart from other hotpots is the addition of a special ingredient: la e leaves. These fragrant leaves, which are native to the Central Highlands, have a slightly bitter taste and add a unique flavor to the dish. They are added to the broth towards the end of cooking, infusing it with their distinctive aroma.
